Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've never worked with developmentally or behaviorally challenged individuals before. How would your agency help me?
A: The majority of our clients are high-functioning individuals. Our adult clients need you to assist them with life skills such as preparing meals, grocery shopping, cleaning their home and community events. Our children need big sisters or brothers who will mentor them with life skills and activities. Access provides you training before you go out to a client site. Additionally, you will job shadow with another experienced staff member until you feel comfortable. Furthermore, we provide all of our employees with CPR, 1st Aid, Medication Administration, and Therapeutic Intervention training. All of our employees are assigned a supervisor who will train and mentor you so that you can provide great service to your client.
Q: Do I have to work overnight, how are those shifts paid, and do I have to stay awake all night?
A: Most of our adult client sites include an eight-hour "sleep" overnight shift. The clients retire for the night at about 10:00. Staff should bring whatever food or clothes they may need. Asleep overnight shifts pay a stipend. Sites that require you to stay awake all night will typically pay the hourly rate instead of the stipend. Child client sites are typically four-hour shifts in the client's home and do not require any overnight time.
Q: Where are the client sites located?
A: Most of our client sites are in Moorhead.
Q: Are the clients male or female, and how old are they?
A: Our client's ages range from about two years old to 60 years old, and we serve both males and females.
Q: Are any of your clients in wheelchairs and would I have to help with bathroom routines?
A: Yes, we do have clients in wheelchairs and other clients who need assistance with personnel cares. We need applicants who are comfortable performing these cares and who also have a caring attitude.
